Veterans are often an excellent fit for asphalt maintenance companies. However, finding Veterans to hire can be a little difficult. There are many distinct options, and where you determine which Veteran hiring program will work best in your area.

## Why Hire a Veteran for your Asphalt Maintenance Company Team?
Veterans are generally flexible people who are used to learning new skills as the job requires them. Additionally, Veterans typically worked in teams while in the military. The military also required strict adherence to protocols, safety, and health, all of which you need in your [asphalt maintenance company](https://info.asphaltkingdom.com/existing-business).
## A Big Consideration When Hiring Veterans
If you have a job in mind for a Veteran, narrowing down the candidate pool to only Veterans can pose a problem. Hiring only Veterans for your asphalt maintenance company team can be considered discriminatory in the United States due to Title VII. It's deemed to be discriminatory based on gender.
However, there is an exception. If your business is in a state, territory, or local area that has passed an ordinance that allows you to hire only Veterans, you may do so. Make sure to check your local laws and keep on top of any changes.

## Where to Find Hirable Veterans?
### VETS
[Veterans' Employment and Training Service](https://www.dol.gov/agencies/vets/) (VETS) is a program sponsored between the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Labor. The program helps service members transition and offers a Veteran hiring program.
To hire VETS program participants, you'll need to reach out to your local workforce/jobs center. You can also reach out to Career One Stop, which is the online component of the workforce centers.
### Hiring Our Heroes
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation put together [Hiring Our Heroes](https://www.hiringourheroes.org/). This Veteran hiring program connects Veterans, transitioning service members, and spouses with companies offering meaningful employment.
You can participate in Hiring Our Heroes in several ways. The organization routinely puts on expos and hiring fairs around the country you can attend for face-to-face recruitment. There is also a unique fellowship program if you're near a military base or in a host city.
### American Corporate Partners
[American Corporate Partners](https://www.acp-usa.org) is a non-profit that connects transitioning service members with private-sector mentors. Typically, this program aims at larger companies. The basics involve mentoring the protégé at least once per month for a year. They may be a good option depending on your business structure.
### Veteran Transition Services
Many local areas also offer community-based Veteran hiring programs as part of transition services. Each of these programs works a little differently, so calling is the best way to determine how to place your job listing. You can search for Veterans service centers, career counselors, and transition services to find these organizations.
### Veteran Specific Job Sites
There are also Veteran-specific websites. This option lets you reach a broader and more geographically diverse audience. These sites, such as Military Hire or Recruit Military, are a great option to hire a Veteran for your asphalt maintenance company.
### Staffing Agencies
Staffing agencies, both physical and digital, are also an option when looking to hire a Veteran. Staffing agencies work a little differently than other avenues since many are designed for temporary situations. However, it does allow you to try employees out for fit before hiring them.
### Indeed
Indeed is one of the most popular job sites in the world, and people use it for everything from cashiers to managers. That means you can find Veterans to hire. Generally, that involves reading through the resumes.
Since Indeed is so popular, you have a well-developed applicant tracking system and a broad candidate pool. Indeed also partners with other websites, so applicants from there can also find your job. That makes it efficient.
### The Other Usual Job Sites
Veterans routinely use regular job search sites. These sites, such as Monster, do not specifically allow you to filter for Veterans when you go through the hiring process. However, you can easily find out when reading the resume or during the interview.
[Finding people to hire](https://blog.asphaltkingdom.com/tips-hiring-staff) and building your asphalt maintenance company team can be difficult. If you want to help your current crew get their work done without working harder, look into [investing into equipment](https://blog.asphaltkingdom.com/asphalt-maintenance-equipment-investments) that will help increase productivity. Judd Burdon has worked in asphalt maintenance for over 25 years. He started out selling driveway sealcoating door to door and eventually created his own asphalt business. After successfully selling Imperial Asphalt he retired to the Caribbean - at the age of 24! He was soon tired of kitesurfing all day every day and he decided to build a website to help people find asphalt equipment and start a business just like he did.
